According to Punch News report Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi scored the decisive goal as Fulham defeated Hull City 1-0 on Saturday, October 17, to secure their first victory of the 2026/27 Premier League campaign.
The Nigerian international struck in the 33rd minute at Craven Cottage, ending Fulham’s six-match winless start and giving manager Álvaro Arbeloa a much-needed breakthrough after a difficult opening to the season.
Iwobi’s goal came after Fulham worked the ball into a promising attacking position. A move involving Sander Berge created the opportunity for the midfielder to shoot, and his effort took a deflection before slipping past Hull goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.
The goal proved enough to separate the teams despite Fulham’s attempts to increase their advantage. The hosts controlled much of the encounter and created several opportunities to extend their lead, but their finishing let them down.
Iwobi nearly added a second in the opening stages of the second half, only for Tzolakis to deny him with an important save. The midfielder later sent another attempt narrowly wide as Fulham continued to press for a more comfortable result.
Spanish forward Gonzalo García also came close to scoring when he met an inviting cross from Iwobi in the 74th minute. His header struck the crossbar, leaving the hosts unable to put the contest beyond Hull.
Fulham’s afternoon ended with additional tension when substitute Ryan Sessegnon received a red card in stoppage time following a late challenge on Hull substitute Robinio Vaz. Reduced to 10 men, the hosts nevertheless held on to claim all three points.
The result lifted Fulham away from the bottom of the Premier League table and eased some of the pressure on Arbeloa, who had been seeking his first league win since taking charge.
For Iwobi, the goal marked an important contribution to his club’s recovery and further demonstrated his value in Fulham’s midfield. His performance helped deliver a result the team urgently needed after failing to win any of its opening six league matches.
Fulham will now look to build on the victory and turn it into a more consistent run of results, while Hull will be disappointed that their defensive efforts were undone by a single deflected shot.
