Barcelona are reportedly monitoring Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi as they consider strengthening their midfield next summer, but Bayern Munich could emerge as major rivals for the Switzerland international’s signature.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Barcelona sporting director Deco is assessing potential midfield reinforcements, with the 21-year-old attracting attention following his impressive performances this season.
Manzambi has made a strong impression with his contributions in the final third, reportedly recording three goals and three assists in six appearances. His performances have increased his profile across Europe, with several leading clubs believed to be tracking his progress.
English journalist Graeme Bailey, as quoted by MARCA, reported that scouts from a number of major European teams have been impressed by the midfielder’s development, with some viewing him as a player capable of reaching the highest level.
However, Barcelona could face significant competition from Bayern Munich. The German club have reportedly followed Manzambi since his time at Freiburg and are also interested in his continued development.
Aston Villa’s reported €60 million investment in the midfielder could make negotiations difficult for any interested club. Having committed a substantial sum to secure his services, the Premier League side may be reluctant to consider selling him after a relatively short period.
Manzambi’s current market valuation is reportedly around €65 million, although that figure does not necessarily indicate the fee Aston Villa would demand. His performances could also influence his price if interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich intensifies.
Barcelona’s financial situation represents another potential complication. The Catalan club would need to assess their available budget before making a serious move, with any major signing potentially dependent on player departures or the generation of additional funds.
A January transfer is considered unlikely, as Manzambi is reportedly happy at Aston Villa and keen to continue his development under manager Unai Emery. Remaining in England for the rest of the season could allow him to gain further experience before considering his long-term future.
Consequently, next summer appears to be a more realistic opportunity for Barcelona to pursue the midfielder. Deco and the club’s recruitment team will need to weigh the cost of a potential deal against their other priorities while also accounting for Bayern Munich’s interest.
For now, Manzambi’s future remains uncertain, but his encouraging performances have placed him on the radar of two of Europe’s most prominent clubs ahead of the next summer transfer window.
