According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday October 25, 2026, Barcelona have officially announced that 19-year-old forward Shane Kluivert will miss approximately eight weeks after sustaining a biceps femoris injury in his left leg, delivering a setback to his development.
The Dutch youngster, son of former Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert, has continued progressing through the club’s academy system while attracting attention from head coach Hansi Flick following his recent performances.
Kluivert participated in Barcelona’s pre-season preparations and featured for Juvenil A in the UEFA Youth League. However, his injury prevented him from participating in Sunday afternoon’s match against Olot, interrupting his current campaign.
Barcelona confirmed the diagnosis through an official medical announcement, outlining the injury and expected recovery period. The statement read: “Player Shane Kluivert has a biceps femoris injury in his left leg. The approximate time out is eight weeks.”
The biceps femoris forms part of the hamstring muscle group, which is essential for sprinting, acceleration and changing direction. Consequently, this injury presents a particular challenge for a winger whose playing style depends heavily on pace and movement.
Kluivert had received opportunities to train alongside Flick’s senior squad during pre-season, gaining valuable experience within Barcelona’s first-team environment. Although he has not made his competitive debut, his ability to operate across the forward line has strengthened his position within the club’s development structure.
His latest setback means he must now concentrate on rehabilitation before returning to action. The recovery process will determine when he can resume training and continue pursuing opportunities to progress towards senior football.
Meanwhile, Barcelona’s academy has suffered another significant injury concern following goalkeeper Eder Aller’s recent surgery for a right hip problem. Aller is expected to remain unavailable for approximately four months.
These developments have raised fresh concerns about player availability across Barcelona’s youth teams after a relatively quiet beginning to the campaign regarding injuries.
For Barça Atlètic and the academy sides, extended absences can complicate selection decisions, disrupt team preparations and interrupt individual development. Kluivert’s immediate priority will be recovering fully, with his return depending on rehabilitation progress and medical assessments.
