According to a report by BBC Sport on Monday November 2, 2026, Arsenal produced a disciplined performance to defeat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield, claiming a valuable Premier League victory after Kai Havertz’s first-half strike proved decisive in a fiercely contested encounter on Sunday.
Liverpool started with attacking intent, but David Raya quickly demonstrated his importance by denying Bradley Barcola early. Arsenal remained organised, while both sides initially struggled to create clear chances in the opening minutes.
The breakthrough arrived in the sixteenth minute when Declan Rice delivered an excellent pass into the penalty area. Havertz controlled the ball and calmly finished from close range, giving Arsenal a deserved lead.
Liverpool responded with pressure, as Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister searched for an equaliser. Raya stayed alert, while Florian Wirtz struck the crossbar with a dangerous free kick before halftime.
The hosts appealed for a penalty after Gakpo went down inside the area, but referee Andy Madley rejected the claim following a VAR review. Arsenal therefore preserved their advantage heading into the interval.
After the restart, Liverpool enjoyed possession and continued pushing forward, yet Arsenal defended resolutely. Isak fired over, Wirtz saw an effort blocked, and the visitors disrupted Liverpool’s attacking moves throughout the second half.
Arsenal also threatened through Noni Madueke, Jurrien Timber and Christos Tzolis. Alisson produced an excellent reflex save to deny Tzolis, while Liverpool struggled to turn possession into clear opportunities during the closing stages.
Despite seven minutes of added time, Liverpool could not find an equaliser. Arsenal held firm to secure victory comfortably.
