For the Cameroonian, the situation now becomes "a test of character" as headlined by Bild.
After a 3-1 triumph over 1.FC Union Berlin back in early September, one Schalke star received a dressing down from Miron Muslic at full-time.
Despite the success, summer signing Junior Dina Ebimbe was, according to Bild, "sharply criticized" internally after the match.
Ebimbe reportedly lost the ball and unsuccessfully hoped for a foul when the Royal Blues held a narrow 2-1 lead in Berlin at the time.
"A behavior that doesn't fit with Muslic's 'defend until the end' philosophy ," the tabloid newspaper stated regarding the full-back's actions.
A week later, despite Dejan Ljubičić's injury, the versatile defender played the full 90 minutes in Schalke's 0-0 stalemate with SV Elversberg.
However, after the international break, Ebimbe was on the bench in the loss to SC Freiburg, with Adrian Gantenbein receiving a start.
The 29-year-old repaid the faith shown in him with a strong performance and got among other goals to equalize at 1-1.
The Swiss player is therefore likely to be preferred over Ebimbe in today's home game against Mainz 05 this afternoon.
