Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee after picking up an injury during Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter with VfB Stuttgart.
The Turkish side announced on Friday that an MRI examination had identified a loose fragment in the left knee of the 27-year-old Nigerian international.
“Victor Osimhen sustained a strain to his left knee in our UEFA Champions League match against VfB Stuttgart, and an MRI scan showed a loose fragment,” the club said in its medical update.
Galatasaray added that the procedure is due to take place tomorrow at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, with club doctor Yener İnce set to carry out the arthroscopic operation.
Osimhen has therefore not been included in Galatasaray’s squad for Saturday’s fixture against Amed S. F.
The problem is also likely to keep him out of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Tanzania, scheduled for November 13 and 17.
His expected absence represents a significant blow for the Super Eagles, who may have to press on with their qualifying campaign without their principal goalscorer.
