Several Nigerian internationals are set for intriguing battles across Europe on Saturday, with Alex Iwobi, Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi expected to feature in England, while Gift Orban and Chidozie Awaziem prepare to face each other in the Turkish Super Lig, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
At Craven Cottage, Iwobi and Bassey are expected to represent Fulham against Hull City, where fellow Nigerian Ajayi is set to feature in the visitors’ defence.
Fulham have endured a difficult start to the campaign, collecting just two points from six matches to sit at the bottom of the table. Despite the team's struggles, Iwobi has been one of their more creative players, creating 13 chances in the league, although he is yet to record a goal or assist.
Bassey has remained a regular in the Fulham side and has also worn the captain’s armband under new manager Álvaro Arbeloa.
Hull, by contrast, have made a more encouraging start, sitting eighth with nine points from six matches. Their early-season results include a victory over Manchester United on the opening day and a draw away to Chelsea.
Ajayi has contributed a goal this season and impressed with his defensive displays as Hull look to maintain their positive momentum.
The pressure is mounting on Arbeloa following Fulham's disappointing results since he replaced Marco Silva in July 2026. The club's 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town on October 10 further intensified scrutiny, with reports suggesting the Spaniard has limited time to improve the team's fortunes.
All three Nigerian players are available for selection ahead of the encounter.
In Turkey, Nigerian centre-back Awaziem faces a difficult assignment as Konyaspor travel to Amedspor, where compatriot Orban has enjoyed an impressive start to the season.
Orban, 24, has scored seven goals in seven league appearances and provided two assists, putting him among the leading scorers in the Turkish Super Lig. He joined Amedspor on loan from Hoffenheim in July 2026.
Reports in Turkey suggest Amedspor would be required to make the transfer permanent for €3 million if the striker reaches the 10-goal mark, adding further interest to his impressive run.
Awaziem, 29, will be expected to play an important role at centre-back for Konyaspor, who sit 15th in the standings and need a disciplined defensive display to contain their opponents.
Amedspor, meanwhile, occupy third place with 14 points from seven matches and are unbeaten in their last five league outings, recording three wins and two draws.
The hosts could also receive a boost with Nigerian winger Yira Sor nearing a return after resuming full training following an injury that sidelined him for approximately six weeks.
Sor suffered the setback against Trabzonspor and had scored once in three league appearances before his absence. His return would provide Amedspor with another attacking option as they seek to extend their positive run.
With Nigerian players facing compatriots on opposing sides in both England and Turkey, the weekend fixtures present an opportunity for the Super Eagles stars to make their mark and help their respective clubs secure valuable points.
