Nicknamed “TLB,” the Chicago Fire star stands as the top-ranked defender on this esteemed list, securing the overall fourth position.

At 21 years old, the center-back has had an outstanding inaugural season in North America after his move from the Pirates in January. He has rapidly become a pivotal player for the Chicago Fire, featuring in 19 matches and starting 17 of them throughout the 2026 season.

His remarkable performance at the club level earned him a spot in the Bafana Bafana squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Under coach Hugo Broos, Mbokazi participated in every minute of South Africa’s historic journey to the knockout stages.

Earlier in the season, he was chosen for the 2026 MLS All-Star Game after receiving the most fan votes, although a small injury regrettably kept him from playing.

His fourth-place achievement in the 22 Under-22 rankings highlights his rapid ascent since transitioning to MLS.
