Duncan Ferguson appointment ‘start of bright new era’ at Glentoran

GLENTORAN joint caretaker boss Tim McCann hailed the appointment of Duncan Ferguson as the start of a bright new era at the Oval.

And the Everton legend – expected to be unveiled on Monday – will be taking charge of a team very much in form, though they did leave it very late to beat Limavady United 1-0 at the Oval.

Daniel Larmour’s injury-time goal made it 13 points from the last 15 for the Glens and moved the east Belfast giants up to third in the BOYLE Sports Premiership.

Former Cliftonville star McCann – who has been in charge alongside ex-Celtic winger Paddy McCourt since Declan Devine’s departure last month – said: “This will be a new era for the club. I will be more than happy to offer the new manager any assistance that I can.”

Former Everton caretaker boss Ferguson – who was also assistant to the legendary Carlo Ancelotti – will be in charge for the first time for next Saturday’s clash with Ballymena United at the Oval.

Ballymena were 2-1 winners over Crusaders at the Showgrounds.

Linfield could only draw 2-2 with Carrick Rangers at Taylor’s Avenue, Blues skipper Chris Shields missing a second-half penalty that would have secured the three points.

Bangor drew 0-0 with Dungannon Swifts at Clandeboye Park.

On Friday night, champions Larne lost 3-2 to leaders Coleraine at Inver Park after being 2-0 up midway through the second half.
