Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that their CAF Confederation Cup match against Red Arrows will not be televised in South Africa on Saturday. The two teams are set to meet at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia, with Amakhosi hoping to secure a positive result in the first leg of their second preliminary round tie.
The announcement means South African supporters will not be able to watch the match on television or through a live stream. Chiefs explained that the problem was caused by the hosts' failure to provide the necessary broadcast link to the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC).
“This afternoon’s CAF Confederation Cup clash against Red Arrows FC will not be televised in South Africa. Unfortunately, the hosting team has been unable to provide our broadcasters, SABC, with the necessary link to air the match in Mzansi,” the club confirmed.
Although supporters will not be able to follow the match live on television, Chiefs have promised to keep their fans informed through their official X account. The club said it would provide updates from the stadium, including key moments as the match unfolds in Ndola.
The fixture is an important test for Fernando Da Cruz's team as they begin their campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup. Chiefs received a bye in the opening round and will now face a Red Arrows side that comes into the tie after beating Inate Rouge 4-0 on aggregate.
Amakhosi will be looking to produce a strong performance away from home and give themselves a good chance of progressing when the two teams meet again in the return leg. However, they will need to be careful against their Zambian opponents, who have already shown their ability to score goals in the competition.
The lack of television coverage will disappoint many Chiefs supporters who were hoping to watch their team compete in Africa. Fans will instead have to rely on the club's social media updates to follow the important moments from the match.
In other news, Baroka FC chairman Khurishi Mphahlele has recalled the moment his club denied Kaizer Chiefs the PSL title on 5 September 2020.
Mphahlele said he noticed Bobby Motaung and the Motaung family watching him during the match but remained happy because he wanted Chiefs to respect Baroka. After the game, Bobby Motaung reportedly approached him and asked why Baroka had denied Amakhosi the points they needed to win the league title, making it a memorable moment for the chairman.
Chiefs will now turn their attention to their continental assignment against Red Arrows as they look to make progress in the CAF Confederation Cup despite the disappointment of not being available to watch the match live in South Africa.
