Relebohile Mofokeng continued his encouraging start to life in European football as Royale Union Saint-Gilloise secured a 3-0 victory over KFC Nijlen in the Belgian Cup on Sunday, 18 October 2026.
The South African attacker was introduced from the bench during the second half as Union SG looked for a breakthrough against a stubborn Nijlen side. The defending champions were expected to win the contest, but their lower-division opponents produced a disciplined defensive display that frustrated them for long periods.
Union SG dominated possession and applied pressure, but Nijlen remained organised and managed to keep the score level at half-time. With the hosts struggling to turn their control into clear chances, head coach David Hubert made changes after the interval in an attempt to increase the attacking intensity.
Mofokeng was among the players brought on, giving the former Orlando Pirates star another opportunity to showcase his qualities while continuing his adaptation to Belgian football.
The breakthrough eventually arrived around the 70th minute when Raul Florucz converted following a delivery from Dylan Aquino. The opening goal relieved some of the pressure on Union and forced Nijlen to become more adventurous.
Mofokeng then played a key role in Union's second goal in the 80th minute. The Bafana Bafana international drove forward, beat his opponent and delivered a cut-back into a dangerous area, allowing Besfort Zeneli to finish and double the champions' advantage.
The contribution highlighted Mofokeng's ability to influence matches with his pace, ball-carrying and creativity, even when he does not start.
Union SG completed the scoring just three minutes later when Kamiel Van de Perre found the net in the 83rd minute to seal a comfortable 3-0 victory.
The result sends Union SG into the Belgian Cup Round of 16 and keeps their hopes of defending the trophy alive.
For Mofokeng, the appearance represents another positive step in his European journey. Since moving from Orlando Pirates, the young attacker has been adapting to a new league and tactical environment while competing for regular playing time.
His latest performance will provide further encouragement as he continues to establish himself in Belgium.
