Pitso Mosimane Kicks Off New Bafana Bafana Contract With Three Consecutive Wins

Pitso Mosimane has made an encouraging start to his latest spell as Bafana Bafana head coach, guiding South Africa to three consecutive victories during the recent international window.

Pitso’s first stint as Bafana head coach ended in humiliation, but the second time is off to a better start.

The experienced tactician returned to the national team setup in September 2026 after being appointed by the South African Football Association (SAFA), replacing Hugo Broos. His first three matches in charge have produced victories over Guinea, Eritrea and Egypt.

The results have given the coach a positive start as he prepares to lead Bafana into the next phase of their international campaign.

South Africa opened their run with a 2-1 victory over Guinea in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier before recording a convincing 5-0 win against Eritrea.

Mosimane's side then completed the winning streak with a 1-0 victory over Egypt in Cairo on Sunday, 4 October 2026.

The win against Egypt was particularly notable, with debutant Puso Dithejane scoring the decisive goal in the second half. Shandre Campbell provided the assist as Bafana secured their third consecutive victory under their new coach.

The team scored eight goals across the three matches and conceded only once, giving Mosimane encouraging early results as he continues to assess his squad.

Despite the positive results, Mosimane has cautioned against becoming complacent, indicating that there is still work to be done before Bafana can consider themselves ready for their upcoming challenges.

Following the victory over Egypt, the coach also highlighted the contribution of younger players who were given opportunities during the international window.

Mosimane made several changes to his starting line-up for the match against Egypt, demonstrating his willingness to assess different combinations and give emerging talent an opportunity to prove themselves at international level.

The approach could prove important as South Africa builds depth in preparation for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.

For now, the coach can take encouragement from a perfect start to his latest Bafana Bafana tenure. Three wins from three matches have given the national team a positive beginning under his leadership, although the longer-term objective remains to secure qualification for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
