Kaizer Chiefs Ladies Finish Third Despite Impressive Form

Kaizer Chiefs Ladies have missed out on a place in the promotional playoffs despite finishing their inaugural season in the SAFA Women’s Provincial League with a 1-0 victory over UJ Ladies on Saturday.

Amakhosazana needed a positive result in their final match and managed to do their part by securing all three points at the Naturena Village. However, their victory was not enough to earn them a place in the promotional playoffs, as Wits University Ladies finished ahead of them in the race for the second position.

Wits secured the important spot after beating JVW Ladies 2-0 at Sturrock Park. The result ensured that they finished second behind Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserve team and qualified for the promotional playoffs.

Chiefs Ladies ended their first campaign on a positive note, with Refilwe Maseko scoring the only goal in their victory over fourth-placed UJ Ladies. The win continued their impressive run of form and gave them another reason to be proud of their performances throughout the season.

Amakhosazana went 16 matches without defeat and recorded an impressive 15 victories during that period. Their consistency showed that they were capable of competing for a place in the promotional playoffs, but they ultimately fell short of their target.

The disappointment will be difficult to take for Chiefs, especially after such a strong finish to the campaign. They collected 70 points but could not overtake Wits in the final standings.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ reserve team finished at the top of the table after beating Mito Stars Ladies 4-0 in their final match. The victory took Sundowns to 73 points, one more than Wits University, who finished with 72 points.

However, Sundowns B cannot earn promotion because the club’s first team already competes in the Hollywoodbets Super League. This means Wits, rather than the league winners, will have the opportunity to fight for promotion through the playoffs.

For Chiefs Ladies, the result brings their first season in the competition to an end without the reward they had hoped for. Despite missing out, their unbeaten run and number of victories provide a solid foundation for the future.

The club will now have to look ahead to the next campaign, where they will aim to build on their progress and challenge for promotion again. Their performances this season suggest that they could remain strong contenders if they maintain their consistency.
