Shalulile Strikes As Young Africans Produce Dramatic Comeback After Mngqithi’s Exit

Shalulile Fires Again As Yanga Begin Life After Mngqithi With Dramatic Comeback Win

Peter Shalulile continued his impressive goalscoring form as Tanzanian giants Young Africans SC secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Mashujaa FC, giving the club a positive start to life after the departure of South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

The victory, played on Tuesday, 27 October 2026, was an important response from Yanga after a difficult period that included a defeat to fierce rivals Simba SC and a goalless draw against TRA United. With pressure mounting in the domestic title race, the defending champions needed a strong performance to restore confidence among their supporters.

Instead of allowing an early setback to derail their plans, the home side fought back to collect all three points, with Shalulile once again proving his value in front of goal.

Shalulile Delivers When Yanga Need Him

Yanga’s afternoon did not begin according to plan. Mashujaa took the lead in the seventh minute through Crispin Ngushi, putting the hosts under immediate pressure in their first match since Mngqithi’s exit.

However, the response came through Shalulile, the former Mamelodi Sundowns striker who has continued to make his presence felt in Tanzania.

The Namibian international found the equaliser in the 22nd minute after being set up by Stephane Aziz Ki. His finish brought Yanga back into the contest and helped settle the team as they searched for control.

The goal was reported as Shalulile’s fifth in the Tanzanian league this season, underlining his importance to a team determined to remain in the title race.

Yanga continued pushing for a winner, and their persistence eventually paid off in the second half. Substitute Clement Mzize scored in the 77th minute to complete the comeback and send the home supporters into celebration.

The 2-1 result secured a valuable victory for the champions after they had fallen behind early in the match.

Winning Start For Interim Coach Simo Dladla

The match also marked the beginning of a new chapter for Yanga following Mngqithi’s departure.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows coach left the Tanzanian club after a short spell in charge. Despite recording 10 victories in 13 matches across all competitions and guiding Yanga into the CAF Champions League group stages, his tenure ended following growing pressure after disappointing domestic results.

Mngqithi also helped the club win the Tanzanian Community Shield, making his departure a significant talking point in South African and Tanzanian football.

His former assistant, Simo Dladla, stepped into the interim role for the Mashujaa encounter. The victory offered Dladla an encouraging start, although the team still has work to do to demonstrate that it can maintain consistency under new leadership.

The comeback was also important in the league standings. Reports placed Yanga on 22 points, two behind leaders Simba SC, who had a game in hand.
