Arthur Zwane Gets Welcome AmaZulu Boost After Durban Derby Win, But One Concern Remains

AmaZulu FC coach Arthur Zwane has received an encouraging boost following his team's 2-1 victory over Durban City in the Durban derby at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday night. However, despite securing three valuable points, the coach believes his players must improve in one important area.

Mlondi Mbanjwa and Athini Maqokolo scored twice in quick succession during the first half to help AmaZulu claim victory in the Betway Premiership encounter. Their goals provided a welcome development for Zwane, whose team had previously depended heavily on Zimbabwean striker Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya for its attacking output.

Before the first FIFA international break of the season, Ngwenya had scored all of AmaZulu's goals across their previous seven matches. The striker has continued to impress and remains the league's leading scorer with eight goals. However, Mbanjwa and Maqokolo's contributions against Durban City suggest that other members of the squad are beginning to share the responsibility of finding the net.

The emergence of additional goalscorers could prove valuable as AmaZulu pursue their objectives this season. Having several players capable of scoring would make the team less predictable and give opponents more attacking threats to worry about.

Despite his satisfaction with the result, Zwane was not entirely pleased with his team's performance. The coach felt AmaZulu could have scored more goals after creating several promising opportunities throughout the match.

Pule Ekstein missed a chance to extend the advantage after finding himself in a one-on-one position, while Ngwenya also came close to scoring but failed to beat the opposing goalkeeper.

These missed opportunities highlighted an issue Zwane wants his players to address. AmaZulu must become more efficient in front of goal if they intend to maintain their momentum and compete consistently against challenging opponents.

The coach also identified misplaced passes and questionable decisions as areas requiring attention. Although the team created opportunities, its inability to make the most of them prevented the victory from becoming more convincing.

AmaZulu's league position nevertheless reflects their strong start to the campaign. After eight matches, they have recorded six wins and accumulated 19 points, placing them third in the standings behind Orlando Pirates, who have 21 points. Kaizer Chiefs are five points behind AmaZulu.

For Zwane, the challenge now is to build on the positive contributions from Mbanjwa and Maqokolo while ensuring the entire team improves its finishing.

If AmaZulu can maintain their attacking progress and reduce the number of wasted chances, they could strengthen their position in the Betway Premiership and increase their chances of challenging the teams above them.
