Egypt has parted ways with head coach Hossam Hassan, and the Egyptian Football Association has confirmed it. The news broke on Saturday, November 7, 2026, after the board met to talk through recent events and how they were affecting the team's stability and image.
The association thanked Hassan and his staff for their work with the national side and wished them well for the future. It has also named Ali Maher as the new head coach of the senior team, and he has been asked to put forward his technical team for the next phase.
Hassan's exit follows a rough stretch. There was growing controversy around his relationship with some members of the squad, especially captain Mohamed Salah. His comments about several players and reports of tension inside the camp kept the story running and fuelled plenty of speculation about his position.
He also picked up a three-match suspension from FIFA after incidents during Egypt's Round of 16 clash with Argentina at the 2026 World Cup. Even so, he leaves with a proud record, having led the Pharaohs to the tournament and into the knockout rounds.
The timing is tight. Egypt face Malawi in 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on November 13 and 17, so Maher will not have long to settle in before the pressure is on.
All eyes now turn to Ali Maher. He has the job of stepping into one of Africa's most successful national sides, fixing the problems around the squad, and keeping Egypt's continental and World Cup ambitions alive. Fans are ready to see what he brings.
So what do you think, was Hassan the right man for the job, or did the drama cost him the chance to finish what he started? Tell us in the comments and tag the Egypt fan who has been waiting for this change.
