Reportedly playing in the Hollywoodbets Regional League, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has made a competitive football return after an absence of almost 18 months without a professional club.
This 33-year-old midfielder has a solid reputation in South African football thanks to his time spent playing for AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs, two teams in the country's premier league.
After departing AmaZulu in 2022, Sithebe signed with Soweto club Amakhosi with the intention of bolstering their midfield. He had trouble establishing a regular starting spot, though, due to competition for spots and changes within the technical team.
The midfielder was a mainstay for Chiefs for a while, but as the club shuffled its roster, he eventually lost favour. Concerns over his future employment were raised after his departure.
He should be able to get back into game shape and show that he can still have an impact in the regional league, where he is supposedly making a return.
For players looking to keep active and maybe be noticed by clubs participating at a higher level, the Hollywoodbets Regional League is a great option.
Whether Sithebe plans to take advantage of this opportunity to return to professional football or just keep playing in the regional tournament is anybody's guess.
At least for the time being, his reported return to the professional game opens a new chapter in his career. Fans are eager to witness the seasoned midfielder's performance in his newest football endeavour.
