Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs are preparing for their return to CAF inter-club competitions, with both Soweto giants facing important fixtures in the second preliminary round.
Pirates will take on Namibian side African Stars in the CAF Champions League, while Chiefs are set to face Zambia’s Red Arrows in the CAF Confederation Cup. However, supporters of the two clubs have different prospects when it comes to watching their teams in action.
Orlando Pirates will be looking to progress further in the Champions League after suffering elimination at the same stage last season against St. Eloi Lupopo. The Buccaneers will be determined to avoid a repeat of that disappointment as they pursue their continental ambitions.
Under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, Pirates secured their place in the second preliminary round after defeating La Cure Waves 3-1 on aggregate. The result allowed the Soweto club to continue its campaign and move closer to the main stages of the competition.
Their opponents, African Stars, also had to overcome a challenging tie to reach this round. The Namibian outfit progressed against Gabonese club Mangasport after the two teams finished level at 3-3 on aggregate, with African Stars advancing on the away-goals rule.
The match has been moved from Namibia to Gaborone National Stadium in Botswana, providing a different setting for the encounter.
For South African supporters, the reported broadcast arrangements offer an opportunity to follow Pirates’ progress. The match is scheduled to be shown live on SABC2, with online streaming also expected to be available through the SABC Plus platform.
Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs will begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign against Zambian side Red Arrows. The team, coached by Fernando Da Cruz, received a bye in the first preliminary round and will now turn its attention to the upcoming fixture.
Red Arrows reached this stage after recording a 4-0 aggregate victory over Inate Rouge, setting up a meeting with the South African side.
However, the broadcast situation surrounding the Chiefs match remains uncertain. According to the available information, the fixture is not expected to be shown on television or streamed through South African platforms at this stage.
The lack of confirmed coverage could make it difficult for Amakhosi supporters who want to follow the team’s opening steps in the competition. Chiefs will nevertheless be focused on securing a positive result as they seek to make progress in Africa.
As things stand, Pirates supporters have a reported viewing option through SABC2 and SABC Plus, while Chiefs fans will need to look out for further announcements regarding possible broadcast arrangements.
The situation may change if a broadcaster confirms coverage before the match. Supporters are therefore encouraged to follow official club and broadcaster announcements for the latest information on television and streaming options.
