Brandon Truter, the head coach of Chippa United, has responded to rumors that have been circulating about his future with the club. He asserted that the media is constructing a narrative that suggests he ought to be fired.
In the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 match that took place on Saturday afternoon, Truter made his comments after Chippa suffered a disappointing loss to Golden Arrows by a score of 4-0. The outcome put an end to the Eastern Cape team's hopes of advancing in the competition and added additional pressure to the coach, who had already been under a lot of pressure following an inconsistent start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The Golden Arrows were able to secure a convincing victory at King Zwelithini Stadium by scoring twice in each half of the first half. In addition to the loss in the cup, Chippa had also been defeated by Kruger United, who were new to the league, by a score of 1-0.
The most recent results have caused Truter's position to be called into question, particularly in light of the fact that several coaches in South African football have already resigned from their positions during this season. The former coach of Richards Bay, on the other hand, is of the opinion that the reports regarding his possible departure are unfair.
On the subject of my continued presence at Chippa, there has been a great deal of discussion in the media. "I don't really read much of what is said in the media, but when I have time, I see that they're saying that I should have been fired or whatever; perhaps they expected the chairman, Chippa Mpengesi, to do that," Truter said. "I don't really pay much attention by reading the media."
In addition, the coach compared Chippa's current standing to that of the previous season, when the club had only accumulated one point at a stage of the campaign that was comparable to the current one. In light of the fact that he believes the team has made progress, he questioned why there was such a strong emphasis placed on his future. In addition, Truter voiced his concern regarding the number of coaches who are losing their jobs in South Africa currently. He made reference to Steve Barker, Manqoba Mngqithi, and Rulani Mokwena, stating that young coaches require direction and assistance. The departure of experienced coaches from the country is something that should be a cause for concern for South African football, he added.
Truter insisted that Chippa have positives to build on, despite the fact that he acknowledged that there is pressure to win matches when they are competing. According to him, the players continue to be united, and he believes that the team is creating opportunities, but that they need to improve their finishing.
In addition, the coach admitted that it was disheartening to allow Golden Arrows to score four goals against them, but he also acknowledged that their opponents deserved credit for their performance.
Truter took over as head coach of Chippa just before the conclusion of the previous season, and he has been in charge of the team for the past five months. His team has played eight matches in the Betway Premiership this season, and they have managed to win one of them, draw five of them, and lose two of them.
The current position of Chippa on the league table is eighth, with eight points on the board. As the season progresses, Truter will be eagerly anticipating that his players will be able to transform their performances into additional victories and alleviate the pressure that is surrounding his position.
