Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has responded to questions surrounding midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s limited playing time, as the player continues to struggle for regular opportunities at the club this season.
Ngcobo, popularly known as Mshini, has made just two league appearances this season, raising questions among supporters about his role in Da Cruz’s plans for the 2026/27 campaign.
The midfielder has been regarded as one of the talented players to emerge from the Kaizer Chiefs academy. However, his involvement with the first team has been limited in recent seasons, with injuries and competition for places affecting his progress.
Da Cruz’s decision to give Ngcobo limited minutes has attracted attention, particularly among supporters who believe the midfielder has the technical ability to make a difference when given regular opportunities.
The Chiefs coach has faced questions about his team selection and the roles of several players as he works to establish his preferred squad and tactical approach. Ngcobo’s situation has become one of the talking points surrounding the team’s midfield options.
The 26-year-old midfielder has previously demonstrated his ability to create scoring opportunities through his passing, vision and technical skills. However, securing a regular place in the starting lineup remains a challenge as he competes with other midfielders for playing time.
Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana previously expressed concern about Ngcobo’s situation, arguing that the midfielder needed to play regularly to fulfil his potential. Kekana also suggested that a move away from Naturena could help him revive his career.
Ngcobo’s future has also attracted attention following reports that he joined Belgian sports agency Lupus Sports in October, a development that has fuelled speculation about his next career move ahead of the upcoming transfer window.
Meanwhile, Da Cruz continues to oversee Kaizer Chiefs as the club seeks to improve its performances across domestic and continental competitions.
