South African football star Relebohile Mofokeng continued his European journey on Sunday after featuring for Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in their convincing 3-0 victory over KFC Nijlen in the Belgian Cup. The defending champions secured their place in the Round of 16, while the young Bafana Bafana international gained another opportunity to gain valuable experience.

Mofokeng started the encounter on the bench before being introduced in the second half. Although he did not make the starting eleven, his appearance was another important step as he continues adapting to European football and competing for a regular place in the Union SG squad.

The Belgian giants initially struggled to break down their opponents, with Nijlen managing to keep the contest competitive during the opening stages. However, Union SG eventually found their breakthrough in the 69th minute when Raul Florucz scored the opening goal to put the defending champions ahead.

Besfort Zeneli doubled the advantage in the 80th minute, leaving Nijlen with a difficult task as the match entered its closing stages. Just three minutes later, Kamiel Van de Perre added the third goal to complete a comfortable victory for Union SG.

The three goals demonstrated the defending champions' attacking quality and ability to take control of a cup fixture when opportunities arise. Their victory ensures they remain on course to defend their Belgian Cup title.

For Mofokeng, the focus will be on making the most of every opportunity as he seeks to establish himself at the club. The talented attacker earned recognition in South Africa through his creativity, technical ability and confidence on the ball during his time with Orlando Pirates.

His transition to European football will require patience, consistency and hard work, particularly as he competes with established players for minutes. Regular appearances could help him develop tactically and improve his ability to influence matches at a higher level.

South African supporters will be eager to see Mofokeng secure more playing time as the season progresses. His development in Belgium could also benefit Bafana Bafana, provided he continues improving and earns opportunities at international level.

With Union SG through to the Round of 16, Mofokeng will now look to build on this appearance and work towards a more prominent role in the squad.
