Kaizer Chiefs utility player Reeve Frosler has called on his teammates to quickly move on from their disappointing CAF Confederation Cup exit and turn their attention to the Carling Knockout and the upcoming Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.
Amakhosi were eliminated from the continental competition in the second preliminary round despite their efforts to recover from a difficult first-leg result in Zambia. The early exit has added pressure on the team, which is still searching for consistency and success under head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
Chiefs will now focus on their Carling Knockout round of 16 match against TS Galaxy on Tuesday. The encounter presents an opportunity for the Soweto giants to keep their hopes of winning silverware alive after already suffering an early exit from the MTN8 competition against Lamontville Golden Arrows.
Speaking to the club's media, Frosler admitted that the continental disappointment was difficult to accept but insisted that the players must concentrate on their next challenge.
“It’s disappointing falling out of the CAF competition. The guys did well to try and get back after the first leg in Zambia, but it just wasn’t meant to be, but now our full focus goes onto the Carling Cup,” Frosler said.
The utility player also acknowledged that TS Galaxy would provide a difficult test, especially considering their recent meetings with Chiefs. However, he believes cup competitions offer a different challenge and give teams an opportunity to achieve their ambitions.
“TS Galaxy have been a tough opponent for us in the last few games, but it’s a cup competition and cup games are always different. We’ll look to put our best foot forward on Tuesday and try and go all the way in the Carling Cup,” he added.
Frosler explained that winning a trophy remains an important objective for the club and that the Carling Knockout gives them another opportunity to achieve that goal.
Chiefs must also prepare for the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates in the Betway Premiership over the weekend. Although the match against their rivals is an important fixture, Frosler stressed that the team cannot afford to overlook TS Galaxy.
The Carling Knockout encounter will therefore be an important test of Chiefs' ability to respond to disappointment and build momentum before facing Pirates.
Meanwhile, South African forward Lyle Foster has treated himself to a stunning new set of wheels in America. He was pictured at Audi Central Houston beside his new Audi RS 3, a high-performance sedan finished in sleek grey with a black honeycomb grille and rear spoiler. Powered by a turbocharged five-cylinder engine, the RS 3 starts at about R1.09 million in the US, though optioned examples can top R1.24 million. Foster looked delighted with his purchase, and fans have congratulated him.
