Peter Shalulile was again on the score sheet as Young Africans celebrated a 2-1 comeback win over Mashujaa SC in the first game after Manqoba Mngqithi departed.
Yanga found themselves a goal down after 17 minutes and had to work extra hard to secure the three points. Mashujaa took an early lead, putting pressure on the home side right from the start. The defending champions needed a response, and it came quickly.
Just five minutes later, Shalulile scored the equaliser to level matters and calm the situation for the home side. Stephane Aziz Ki provided the assist that allowed the Namibian striker to find the back of the net. Both teams went into the break with matters level, giving Yanga the chance to regroup and push for the win in the second half.
The home side eventually found the winner in the 79th minute when Clement Mzizi put Yanga in front. The late goal sealed the comeback and gave the team the three points they needed. It was a hard-fought victory that showed the squad’s character after a difficult period.
The win saw Yanga cut their gap on log leaders and bitter rivals Simba SC to just two points with a game in hand. This result keeps the title race alive and puts the club back in a strong position in the Tanzanian Premier League. Supporters will be pleased to see the team respond positively after recent struggles.
Mngqithi’s former assistant Simo Dladla was in charge of the match, after the former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows head coach was sacked over the weekend. The South African coach took the reins on an interim basis as the club looks for a permanent replacement. His first game in charge ended with an important victory that should help steady the team.
Shalulile continues to deliver goals for Young Africans since joining the club earlier this year. His ability to score in big moments remains a key asset for the side. With the gap to Simba now narrowed, Yanga will look to build on this result and keep up the pressure at the top of the table. The performance under Dladla offers a positive start as the club moves forward.
