Former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has continued to attract attention in African football after guiding Egyptian side Pyramids FC to a 1-0 away victory over El Merriekh Bentiu in the CAF Champions League.

The narrow win gives Pyramids FC an important advantage as they continue their campaign to secure a place in the competition’s group stage. It also provides an encouraging result for Mokwena as he looks to establish himself at his new club.

Pyramids FC faced a challenging away encounter against El Merriekh Bentiu, but they managed to secure the victory despite the tight scoreline. Winning away from home can be difficult in continental competitions, making the result valuable for the Egyptian outfit.

Mokwena is already familiar with the demands of African football, having previously worked with Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa. His experience in the Premier Soccer League and continental tournaments has helped shape his coaching career.

His move to Egypt has now given him another opportunity to demonstrate his abilities outside South Africa. Pyramids FC have ambitions of competing among Africa’s leading clubs, and their CAF Champions League campaign offers Mokwena a chance to help the team pursue those goals.

The 1-0 result against El Merriekh Bentiu represents a positive step towards reaching the group stage. However, Pyramids FC will need to maintain their performance and complete the task as they continue their push in the competition.

For Mokwena, the focus will be on building consistency, improving the team and ensuring his players deliver in important matches. Although one victory does not guarantee success over the course of a season, positive results can help build confidence and momentum.

South African football supporters are likely to follow his progress closely, especially those who remember his time at Orlando Pirates and Sundowns.

As Pyramids FC continue their continental journey, Mokwena will have another opportunity to strengthen his reputation as a coach capable of competing beyond South Africa. His latest victory offers an encouraging start as the Egyptian club pursues its CAF Champions League ambitions.
