AmaZulu are showing promising signs of progress in the Betway Premiership, with head coach Arthur Zwane benefiting from the trust and support of club president Sandile Zungu. The stability within the club’s leadership appears to be playing an important role as Usuthu aim to establish themselves among South Africa’s top teams.
Zwane has expressed his appreciation for the freedom given to him since joining the Durban-based club. Speaking during the 2026 Carling Knockout Cup draw, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach praised Zungu, the club’s board, chief executive officer and supporters for allowing him to develop the team.
Zwane joined AmaZulu in October 2024 alongside Vusumuzi Vilakazi. After Vilakazi left in February 2025, Zwane took full responsibility for the first team, giving him an opportunity to implement his football philosophy after spending approximately 24 years at Kaizer Chiefs.
The decision to retain him has yielded encouraging results. AmaZulu finished fourth in the previous league campaign, narrowly missing out on qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Zungu previously confirmed his commitment to Zwane beyond the 2024/25 season, praising the coach for improving the team's character and emphasising the importance of loyalty.
According to TimesLIVE reporting on October 15, 2026, AmaZulu occupied third place in the league standings with 19 points, four behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Zwane has made it clear that the club intends to improve on its previous fourth-place finish and challenge for continental qualification.
However, maintaining that progress will require consistent performances, stronger squad depth and effective planning. Competing with established sides such as Sundowns and Orlando Pirates remains a significant challenge.
For now, Zungu's continued confidence in Zwane is providing AmaZulu with stability and an opportunity to build for the future. If their progress continues, Usuthu could emerge as increasingly serious contenders in South African football.
