Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed his disappointment with his team's performance despite securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Milford FC in the Carling Knockout last-16 encounter on Tuesday evening.

The Buccaneers advanced to the next stage of the competition after producing a result that reflected their superiority on the scoreboard. However, Ouaddou was reportedly unhappy with certain aspects of his players' display, suggesting that the outcome did not fully reflect the level of performance he expected from his squad.

Despite scoring three goals and keeping a clean sheet, Pirates failed to satisfy their coach in every department. Ouaddou's reaction highlighted his determination to ensure that the team maintains high standards, regardless of whether they secure victories or suffer setbacks.

The coach's criticism reportedly centred on what he viewed as selfish behaviour among some players during the encounter. His concerns suggest that individual decisions may have affected the team's overall effectiveness, particularly when opportunities arose to create better attacking situations for teammates.

The description of certain Pirates stars as 'selfish' points to a potential issue with decision-making and teamwork. In a team competing for major honours, players must understand when to pursue individual opportunities and when to release the ball to teammates who are better positioned to contribute.

Pirates' victory over Milford FC nevertheless provided an important opportunity to progress in the Carling Knockout competition. Their three-goal advantage demonstrated their ability to produce the necessary result, but Ouaddou's response indicated that winning alone would not be enough to satisfy his ambitions.

The coach is expected to demand greater discipline, improved cooperation and more effective communication from his players as the campaign continues. Such qualities are particularly important in knockout competitions, where a single mistake or missed opportunity can determine a team's fate.

For Orlando Pirates, the challenge will be to build on the positive result while addressing the shortcomings identified by their technical team. Maintaining a balance between individual creativity and collective responsibility could prove crucial as they pursue further success.

Ouaddou's comments also underline the competitive expectations surrounding the Soweto giants, whose supporters anticipate strong performances alongside positive results. Although the victory over Milford FC secured progress, the coach's reaction made it clear that there remains room for improvement.

The Buccaneers will now look to carry their winning momentum into their subsequent fixtures while working towards delivering the consistent, disciplined and unselfish performances Ouaddou expects from his squad.
