Sekhukhune United has bolstered its technical team by appointing former Zimbabwe international Tapuwa Kapini as the new goalkeeper coach, enhancing the club's coaching staff as they continue their Betway Premiership season.
Kapini comes to the Limpopo-based club after a stint with Highlands Park, where he specialized in coaching and developing young goalkeepers. This new role also sees him returning to familiar territory, having played for Sekhukhune when the club was in the GladAfrica Championship before moving up to South Africa's premier league.
With a noteworthy playing career that includes 43 caps for Zimbabwe from 2001 to 2013, Kapini's extensive experience in both domestic and international football is expected to greatly benefit Sekhukhune's goalkeeper unit.
He will collaborate with the current technical team led by Papi Zothwane, who is guiding the club through recent coaching changes. Zothwane's role focuses on maintaining team competitiveness and ensuring players perform consistently throughout the season.
This appointment is part of Sekhukhune's efforts to enhance squad development and raise the quality of their goalkeeping. The club's lineup includes goalkeepers Melusi Buthelezi, Toaster Nsabata, and Manuel Sapunga, giving Kapini a talented group to work with as he implements his strategies.
Kapini was on the bench during Sekhukhune's recent 2-1 victory over Marumo Gallants at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium, where a late goal from Bethuel Muzeu secured a crucial win amidst ongoing changes in the coaching staff.
His arrival is anticipated to aid the club in boosting individual performances, reinforcing defensive organization, and nurturing goalkeepers throughout the season.
For Sekhukhune, hiring a coach with Kapini's credentials presents an opportunity to deepen the technical team. The club will be hoping his influence helps the goalkeepers achieve consistency as they strive toward their goals in the Betway Premiership.
