Chippa United have reportedly emerged as the only club from South Africa’s Betway Premiership currently listed under FIFA’s registration bans, raising fresh concerns about the Eastern Cape side’s ability to strengthen its squad during upcoming transfer windows.
According to a report published by Africa Soccer on October 21, 2026, Chippa remain on FIFA’s registration ban list following a restriction reportedly recorded in September. The sanction is said to cover three consecutive transfer windows, potentially complicating the club’s recruitment plans if it remains in force.
A FIFA registration ban prevents a club from registering new players while the restriction is active. However, existing players can continue representing their team, meaning Chippa could still compete in the league while facing limitations on bringing in reinforcements.
The latest development comes after the club was previously involved in a financial dispute with former midfielder Roland Sanou. The Burkina Faso international joined Chippa during the 2024/25 season but departed without making a first-team appearance.
FIFA subsequently ruled in Sanou’s favour over outstanding payments and ordered the club to fulfil its financial obligations. Chippa later maintained that the amount owed had been paid and the matter resolved, while criticising reports suggesting the earlier registration ban remained active.
However, the restriction reportedly recorded in September appears to be a separate matter. The specific reason behind the latest sanction has not been established in the available information, and further clarification is needed before its circumstances can be confirmed.
The situation could have significant implications for Chippa’s preparations in the coming months. Recruitment is essential for clubs seeking to improve their performances, replace departing players and maintain sufficient squad depth throughout a demanding campaign.
Without the ability to register new signings, the club’s technical team may have to rely more heavily on its existing players while carefully managing injuries, suspensions and fatigue.
For now, Chippa United remain under scrutiny as questions persist over their status on FIFA’s registration list. The club will need to address the issue behind the latest restriction and comply with the relevant procedures to secure its removal.
