Musona: I was playing with Khama at school

Knowledge Musona has opened up about the special understanding he shares with teammate Khama Billiat after the pair scored in Scottland’s 2-0 win over Petro de Luanda.

The Zimbabwean champions took a strong first-leg lead in their CAF Champions League clash at the National Sports Stadium in Harare. Billiat broke the deadlock in the 67th minute before turning provider for Musona, who made it 2-0 with 10 minutes remaining. The result gives Scottland a comfortable cushion ahead of the return leg in Luanda.

Speaking after the match, Musona explained that their partnership is nothing new. He said the two have known each other since their school days and later played together at the academy. “I was playing with Khama at school,” Musona said. “It was always myself and him at the front. He knows my movement and I know his. We do not need to talk much on the pitch. It is just through vision and understanding.”

Musona added that the connection comes from years of playing together, both at club level and for the Warriors. The pair have been teammates in the national set-up for more than a decade and have built a strong on-field relationship over time. Their experience has been valuable for Scottland, especially against a side like Petro de Luanda, which arrived in Harare with a strong reputation in African football.

The match was not always easy for the hosts. Petro de Luanda’s goalkeeper was sent off early for a foul on Billiat, but the Angolans still kept the score level at half-time. Scottland improved after the break and used their numerical advantage to push forward. Billiat’s goal finally opened the game up, and Musona’s finish sealed the win. Both players showed the kind of quality that has made them well-known across the region.

Scottland now travel to Angola knowing that a strong performance in the second leg could see them progress further in the competition. Musona and Billiat, both in the later stages of their careers, have been important figures for the team since joining. Their goals against Petro de Luanda have given the club a good chance of advancing and have reminded supporters of the long friendship between the two Zimbabwean forwards.

For Musona, the victory was about more than just the result. It was another chance to show the understanding he has built with Billiat over many years, starting from the days when they first played together at school.
