Shalulile Strikes As Young Africans Produce Dramatic Comeback After Mngqithi’s Exit

Peter Shalulile continued his impressive goalscoring run as Young Africans SC came from behind to defeat Mashujaa FC 2-1 on Tuesday, 27 October 2026. The victory gave the Tanzanian champions an encouraging start to life after the departure of South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

Yanga entered the encounter under pressure following a defeat to their fierce rivals Simba SC and a goalless draw against TRA United. With the domestic title race becoming increasingly competitive, the defending champions needed a positive result to regain confidence and keep their championship ambitions on track.

Despite conceding early, the hosts showed determination to turn the match around, with Shalulile once again playing a crucial role in their victory.

Shalulile Continues His Impressive Scoring Form

Young Africans suffered an early setback when Mashujaa took the lead through Crispin Ngushi in the seventh minute. The goal put the home side under pressure as they looked to make a positive impression in their first match since Mngqithi's departure.

However, Yanga responded in the 22nd minute when Shalulile found the back of the net. The Namibian international, formerly of Mamelodi Sundowns, converted an opportunity created by Stephane Aziz Ki to bring his team level.

The goal was reportedly Shalulile's fifth in the Tanzanian league this season, further highlighting his importance to the club's attacking ambitions.

With the score level, Yanga continued searching for a winning goal. Their efforts eventually paid off in the 77th minute when substitute Clement Mzize scored to complete the comeback.

Mzize's late strike secured all three points for the defending champions and gave their supporters reason to celebrate after a challenging period.

Dladla Begins Interim Spell With Victory

The match also marked a new chapter for Young Africans following Mngqithi's exit. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows coach left the club after a relatively short spell in charge.

During his tenure, Mngqithi reportedly recorded 10 victories in 13 matches across all competitions, guided Yanga into the CAF Champions League group stages and helped the club win the Tanzanian Community Shield.

Despite those achievements, his departure followed growing pressure after disappointing results in domestic competitions.

His former assistant, Simo Dladla, was appointed interim coach and took charge of the team against Mashujaa. The comeback victory provided an encouraging beginning to his temporary tenure, although maintaining consistency will be essential as the season progresses.

The result also carried significant implications for the league standings. Young Africans were reported to have collected 22 points, leaving them two points behind leaders Simba SC, who had a game in hand.

With Shalulile continuing to deliver in front of goal, Yanga will hope to build on this victory and close the gap on their rivals as they pursue another Tanzanian league title.
