Orlando Pirates rising star Simphiwe Masilela has been urged to remain humble, disciplined and focused as he continues his journey towards establishing himself in the club’s senior team. The 22-year-old midfielder has made significant progress through the Buccaneers’ development structures, earning an opportunity to showcase his abilities at a higher level.

Former coach Joseph Makhanya, who worked with Masilela during his formative years, believes the young midfielder must understand that reaching the first team is only the beginning of a much bigger challenge. While his promotion represents an important milestone, Makhanya has stressed that hard work and consistency will ultimately determine how far he progresses in his professional career.

Masilela’s journey through the ranks, including his involvement in the DStv Diski Challenge, demonstrates the importance of developing young players within the club’s system. His progress has attracted attention, with supporters eager to see whether he can translate his potential into consistent performances for the senior side.

However, Makhanya’s advice serves as a reminder that opportunities at a club of Pirates’ stature come with considerable expectations. Competition for places is fierce, and young players must prove themselves against experienced professionals who are equally determined to secure regular playing time.

For Masilela, maintaining the right attitude will be essential as he adjusts to the demands of senior football. Rather than becoming distracted by praise and growing expectations, he will need to continue improving his technical ability, understanding of the game and overall performance whenever opportunities arise.

His development also reflects Orlando Pirates’ efforts to nurture talent from within their own structures. Promoting young players gives them a pathway to professional football while strengthening the club’s long-term ambitions.

Pirates supporters will be hoping Masilela can build on his progress and become an important contributor in the coming seasons. Nevertheless, his future will depend on how effectively he responds to the challenges ahead. By remaining humble, working hard and delivering consistent performances, the midfielder could establish himself as a valuable member of the Buccaneers’ senior squad.
