Jessica Motaung Helps Jerry Sikhosana After Pirates Disappointment

Ex-Striker Jerry Sikhosana has spoken out about his animosity toward the Orlando Pirates, saying that the team failed to recognise his worth as a player.

Famously known as "Legs of Thunder," Sikhosana played a crucial role in the Buccaneers' 1995 CAF Champions League triumph, scoring the game-winning goal in the second leg against ASEC Mimosas to give Pirates their first CAF Champions League trophy.

Having left Witbank Aces in 1993 at the age of57, Sikhosana signed on with the Soweto giants and remained until 1998, with a brief return in 2000–2001. He left an indelible mark as an iconic attacker for Pirates, scoring 44 goals in 125 games played for the club.

Sikhosana feels that the club has not treated him with the respect he deserved after retiring, despite his many achievements. In an interview for the Kasi Jam podcast, he spoke up about a time when he felt unappreciated. Given his historical importance to the club, he believed it was improper to have to stand in queue with other supporters to buy a ticket for a Pirates match, as he mentioned.

"The first thing that should come to mind when you see a star on a Pirates jersey should be, 'Thank you Jerry Sikhosana, you gave us a star.'" he commented.

Among the events that Sikhosana recounted occurred in Durban, where he crossed paths with Thandi Merafe, the Pirates' publicity officer, as well as Edward Motale and Lucky Lekgwathi, two ex-players clad in brand-new tracksuits. Despite his own feelings of exclusion, he believed they had been selected to honour the club's illustrious past. He made it clear that, as a former Pirates player, all he wanted was a ticket to the game, no special treatment.

He thanked Jessica Motaung, the director of marketing and commercials for Kaizer Chiefs, for assisting him in obtaining a VIP suite ticket, despite his connections to the Pirates' most formidable adversary. A squad that I used to crush got preferential treatment for me. Who are the individuals I helped out during the derby? Sikhosana called out.

His comments show that he is unhappy with the Pirates for not giving him the recognition he deserves, especially considering his role in the club's remarkable successes. As a football owner, Sikhosana is still involved with the sport; his team, Tembisa Hollywood Thunder FC, competes in the ABC Motsepe League.
