Thembinkosi Lorch Faces Uncertain Future at Al-Ittihad Tripoli Amid Exit Reports
Thembinkosi Lorch could be heading for another unexpected career change, with reports suggesting that the former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker may be close to ending his spell with Libyan club Al-Ittihad Tripoli.
According to iDiski Times, which reported on 20 October 2026, discussions about a possible mutual separation between Lorch and the club are underway. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding the termination of his contract, leaving the 33-year-old's immediate future uncertain.
Lorch joined Al-Ittihad Tripoli in February 2026 following his spell with Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club. During his time at Wydad, the South African international gained valuable international experience and scored a goal at the expanded FIFA Club World Cup.
However, his situation in Libya appears to have changed in recent weeks. Reports indicate that Lorch has been left out of recent league squads and is no longer a regular part of head coach Faouzi Benzarti's plans.
Changes to Al-Ittihad's squad, the arrival of new players and restrictions on foreign-player registrations have reportedly contributed to the uncertainty surrounding his position. Nevertheless, the exact reasons for his reduced involvement remain unclear.
Should both parties agree to terminate his contract, Lorch could become a free agent during the next transfer window, giving him an opportunity to consider other destinations.
A potential move to Moroccan side MAS Fès was reportedly discussed, but negotiations are said to have stalled over personal terms, particularly the financial package. A return to Wydad has also emerged as a possibility, while clubs in Egypt and Algeria have been linked with the attacker without any confirmed agreements.
In South Africa, speculation has also connected Lorch with Kaizer Chiefs. However, there is currently no confirmed offer or agreement involving the Soweto giants.
For now, Lorch must wait for clarity regarding his contractual situation. His next move will likely depend on his financial expectations, available opportunities and the level of interest from potential suitors. Whether he returns to South Africa or continues his career abroad remains to be seen.
