iDiski TV analyst Junior Khanye believes Wandile Duba made the difference as Kaizer Chiefs secured a convincing 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the first round of the Carling Knockout Cup at FNB Stadium on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old striker delivered an outstanding second-half performance, scoring all three goals to send Amakhosi into the quarter-finals. His hat-trick also took his goal tally to six across all competitions this season, strengthening his position as one of the players Chiefs can rely on in front of goal.
Khanye, a former Kaizer Chiefs winger, praised Duba for his clinical finishing and determination throughout the match. He believes the young forward has qualities that could help him become a top striker for the club, provided he learns to maintain his performances consistently.
“In today’s game, he was clinical, and well done to him,” Khanye said on iDiski TV.
“I think he was the difference in the whole game. The boy has a never-say-die attitude. That’s what I’ve observed. He is very arrogant, and that helps him because he uses it on the pitch, although he obviously needs to control it here and there.”
Khanye also advised Duba to be careful about his celebrations after scoring, warning that his actions could attract criticism during matches when he fails to find the back of the net.
“He doesn’t need to do that because, in three or four games when he doesn’t score, it will be used against him. He must just keep quiet, get results, and when he scores, we’ll clap for him,” Khanye added.
Despite questioning whether Duba is the most skilful striker, Khanye highlighted his intelligent runs, strength on the ball and ability to punish defensive mistakes. He believes these qualities make the youngster dangerous in the final third.
Meanwhile, TS Galaxy chairman Tim Sukazi has claimed that Kaizer Chiefs use profits from their potato chips to buy players. According to Sukazi, the club sets aside R2 from every packet sold and puts it towards new signings. He said this is why Amakhosi prefer to pay for players in instalments instead of making once-off payments. Sukazi described the chips as one of the club's main products, with a portion of the profit going to transfers.
Khanye believes Duba has the potential to become a leading striker for Chiefs, but consistency will be crucial if he wants to build on his impressive performance against TS Galaxy.
