“lThe controversial handball incident between Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC has drawn the attention of former FIFA referee Victor Hlungwani, who has stated that the Amakhosi were not wrongfully denied a penalty in the Betway Premiership match.

The incident sparked a heated discussion among Kaizer Chiefs supporters. Some felt the referee should have pointed to the spot after the ball hit a Stellenbosch player's hand or arm inside the penalty area. But Hlungwani had a different take on things, saying that the situation didn't constitute a handball offense according to the Rules of the Game. While appearing on SABC Sport, the ex-official looked at the player's arm position as the ball came closer.

The arm was in its natural position, and the incident did not warrant a penalty, according to Hlungwani.Hlungwani emphasized that referees are not bound to give a penalty the second a player's hand or arm comes into touch with the ball. On the contrary, officials need to take into account a number of elements, such as the player's motion, the position of the arm, and whether or not the player purposefully inflated their body.Based on his analysis, Chiefs should not have been awarded a penalty.

The hand appears to be in an organic position. Was the hand struck? As a result, Ayikho, you were not robbed, Amakhosi, Hlungwani declared, and the punishment was dropped. He offered an alternative perspective to the discontent felt by some Chiefs fans who felt the decision had been unfair to their team in his remarks. The specifics of each handball incident can have a significant impact on the outcome, making it one of the most controversial aspects of football. Even though there will be ongoing debates among supporters, Hlungwani thinks the referee made the right call not to give a penalty.

This controversy is just the latest example of how closely Kaizer Chiefs are watched, as any significant refereeing decision involving the club usually garners a lot of attention. The attention of Amakhosi will now turn to their forthcoming matches, where they will aim to improve their league standing and keep up their challenge in the Betway Premiership.
