Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler has urged South Africa’s senior footballers to raise their performance levels, pointing to the country’s youth national teams as an example of the ambition and commitment required to succeed on the international stage.
Frosler believes the performances of South Africa’s Under-20 and Under-23 sides offer valuable lessons for the senior national team, Bafana Bafana. His message is that established players should use the progress of younger footballers as motivation to improve rather than view their emergence as a threat.
The Amakhosi defender emphasised the importance of determination, concentration and consistent performances when competing for a place in the national team. In his view, senior players must continue developing their abilities and demonstrate that they deserve international selection.
Frosler also highlighted the value of studying the approach and mentality of younger teams, suggesting that their performances could provide useful lessons for more experienced professionals.
The challenge comes as South African football continues to look towards developing talent across different age groups and strengthening the national team's competitiveness.
For senior players, the message is straightforward: national-team selection requires sustained performance, and no player should assume that experience alone guarantees a place in the squad.
Frosler’s comments underline the importance of healthy competition within South African football, with younger players potentially pushing their more experienced counterparts to raise their standards.
Whether the senior side can translate those lessons into improved performances will ultimately be determined on the pitch.
