Bobby Motaung Shares His Position on Kaizer Chiefs Coach

Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has defended the club’s technical team, making it clear that the Soweto giants will not make rushed decisions because of disappointing results or growing pressure from supporters.

Amakhosi have faced increasing criticism over their inconsistent performances, with fans demanding better results and greater progress under head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Despite the concerns, the club’s management appears determined to maintain stability and give the technical team sufficient time to implement its plans.

“My coach owns the change room, controls the change room. If you hear how people are fired in other clubs or whatever, we’re not in a circus game,” Motaung said.

His remarks suggest that Chiefs are not prepared to follow the approach of clubs that frequently dismiss coaches whenever results fail to meet expectations.

Da Cruz has endured a challenging period in charge, with the team struggling to convert promising displays into consistent victories. The pressure intensified after Chiefs were eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Amakhosi defeated Zambian side Red Arrows 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium in the second leg, bringing the aggregate score to 1-1. However, they eventually lost 3-2 in the penalty shootout, ending their hopes of reaching the continental competition’s group stages.

The elimination disappointed supporters who had expected the club to make a stronger impression in Africa. Nevertheless, sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has also reaffirmed his confidence in Da Cruz and his assistants, highlighting the importance of stability, accountability and long-term development.

Chiefs have since shown signs of improvement, recording an impressive 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Round of 16. The result provided a timely confidence boost and kept their hopes of winning a trophy alive.

Attention has now shifted to the eagerly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, which presents another opportunity for Chiefs to demonstrate their progress.

Although management continues to back the technical team, Da Cruz and his players must deliver consistent results to restore supporters’ confidence.

For now, Bobby Motaung’s message is clear: Kaizer Chiefs intend to prioritise stability rather than make an impulsive coaching change. However, the pressure to produce results will remain intense as the season continues.
