South African coach Reneilwe Letsholonyane has continued his impressive start in Botswana after guiding Mochudi Centre Chiefs into the semi-finals of the African Hero Top 8 tournament.
The Botswana outfit, popularly known as Maaparankwe, secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Morupule Wanderers at the National Stadium in Gaborone this past weekend to book their place in the last four.
Letsholonyane, affectionately known as Yeye, has enjoyed a remarkable return to coaching in Botswana since September. The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder has quickly made his mark, delivering consecutive victories in the Botswana Premier League before leading his team to cup success.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs opened the scoring in the 26th minute through former Cape Town Spurs striker Mpho Kgaswane, giving the team an early advantage.
The hosts continued their dominance after the interval, with Kelvin Ndebelele doubling their lead in the 70th minute following an assist from Kgaswane.
Morupule Wanderers managed to reduce the deficit later in the encounter, briefly raising hopes of a comeback. However, Argentine forward Nicolas Melgajero sealed the victory by scoring in the 87th minute.
The triumph provides another confidence boost for Letsholonyane and his players as they prepare for their next Botswana Premier League fixture against Jwaneng Galaxy on Wednesday, 28 October.
Mochudi Centre Chiefs currently occupy fourth position in the league standings with 10 points, five behind leaders Gaborone United.
Yeye's strong start has raised expectations as he continues his quest for silverware with the Botswana side.
