Andile Ncube Explains Why Yanela Mbuthuma Was Destined for Orlando Pirates Despite Growing Criticism

Andile Ncube has expressed confidence in Yanela Mbuthuma’s ability to succeed at Orlando Pirates, insisting that the young striker was destined to play for one of South Africa’s biggest football clubs. His comments have reignited discussions about the forward’s potential, development and growing responsibilities at the Soweto giants.

Ncube believes Mbuthuma demonstrated his quality during his time at Richards Bay, where his performances suggested that he was capable of competing at a higher level. According to the football enthusiast, the striker’s talent and influence were evident long before he secured his move to Orlando Pirates.

“Yanela Mbuthuma was made to play for a big club like Orlando Pirates,” Ncube said, expressing his belief that the forward has the qualities required to represent a club with such high expectations.

Ncube also recalled watching Mbuthuma at Richards Bay and predicting that he would eventually move to a bigger team because of his impressive performances.

“I remember when I started seeing Yanela at Richards Bay and I said he’s not gonna last there because you could tell he’s made for a bigger team,” he remarked.

Since joining Orlando Pirates, Mbuthuma has had the opportunity to test himself in a more competitive environment, where consistency and performance are essential. However, playing for a club of Pirates’ stature also brings considerable pressure, particularly for a young striker expected to contribute goals and help the team challenge for major honours.

His progress has attracted further attention following his Bafana Bafana call-ups, marking an important milestone in his career. Nevertheless, questions have reportedly emerged over whether he should be a regular starter for the Buccaneers.

Ncube’s backing suggests that Mbuthuma deserves patience as he continues adjusting to the demands of elite football. Experienced teammates could also help him improve his decision-making, confidence and overall effectiveness in front of goal.

Ultimately, Mbuthuma must translate his potential into consistent performances. His journey from Richards Bay to Orlando Pirates and the national team spotlight highlights his progress, but establishing himself as a dependable striker will require hard work, continued development and regular contributions on the pitch.
