Kaizer Chiefs defender Reeve Frosler believes the club’s experienced players can learn valuable lessons from the young footballers representing South Africa at under-20 and under-23 level. The right-back has encouraged himself and his teammates to improve their performances and work towards securing places in the senior national team, Bafana Bafana.
The Soweto-based club has several young players involved in South Africa’s junior national teams, highlighting the progress of its youth development structures. However, Chiefs have had fewer players featuring consistently in the senior national side.
Frosler believes the achievements of the younger generation should motivate the club’s senior players to raise their standards and compete for national team selection. Rather than viewing the situation negatively, he sees it as an opportunity for experienced footballers to reflect on their performances and identify areas where they can improve.
Speaking about the difference in representation between the junior national teams and Bafana Bafana, Frosler said senior players should take inspiration from the progress made by the younger footballers.
“I think that’s for us senior team players to look at them and say, if our junior teams are being able to do it,” Frosler said.
“We can learn something from our junior teams, and we have to try to do better and get into the national team ourselves.”
His remarks reflect his ambition to earn another opportunity to represent South Africa while encouraging his teammates to pursue the same objective. Consistent performances at club level remain important for players hoping to attract the attention of the national team selectors.
Frosler also welcomed the emergence of young talent at Kaizer Chiefs, expressing hope that the promising players would continue developing and eventually establish themselves in the first team.
“It’s positive for us, seeing these young talents coming through, and hopefully they can continue growing and hopefully take over in the first team as well,” he added.
The development of young players remains important for Chiefs as the club looks to build a competitive squad for the future. Giving emerging footballers opportunities to grow could strengthen the first team while contributing to the development of South African football.
However, Frosler believes the responsibility to improve should not rest solely on the younger players. Senior members of the squad must also maintain high standards, work consistently and demonstrate that they deserve opportunities at both club and national level.
The defender’s message is that the progress of the junior players should serve as motivation for the more experienced members of the team. Their achievements offer an example of what can be accomplished through development, dedication and strong performances.
For Frosler and his Kaizer Chiefs teammates, the challenge is to turn that motivation into improved displays on the pitch. By raising their individual standards and competing consistently, they will hope to strengthen their chances of earning places in Bafana Bafana.
