What Kaizer Chiefs Just Did to Sundowns Has South Africa in Complete Disbelief

After the Chiefs' draw against Sundowns, Phili shines, and Da Cruz praises the Chiefs' fighting spirit.

On Saturday, the head coach of Kaizer Chiefs, Fernando Da Cruz, expressed his satisfaction in his players after the Soweto giants achieved a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns, the defending African champions. The match took place at FNB Stadium.

After playing their third match in just six days, Chiefs were had to dig deep in order to win the Betway Premiership match that was much anticipated. The two titans ended up splitting the spoils of the match. In spite of the difficult schedule, Da Cruz was particularly impressed by the level of commitment displayed by his team.

Following the match, Da Cruz expressed his admiration for the team, saying, "I am very proud of the team because three games in six days with the same players, amazing today."

The French coach had already been confronted with a challenging spell, as the Chiefs had to deal with injuries and a packed schedule of matches. In addition, the club made a number of adjustments to its starting eleven in preparation for the match against Sundowns, one of which was to give Thabo Moloisane his first appearance.

A disciplined effort was delivered by Amakhosi against a Sundowns team that was loaded with quality players and had a continental reputation, despite the hurdles that they faced.

It was during the second half of the game that the breakthrough occurred, when the newly signed player Langelihle Phili made his debut on the principal stage. The Chiefs were able to take the lead because to the confident attacking performance of the attacker, which caused the home fans to celebrate.

Considering that Phili had just moved from Stellenbosch FC to Kaizer Chiefs, the fact that he scored his first league goal for Kaizer Chiefs made it an especially noteworthy achievement. As Da Cruz continues to construct a new-look Amakhosi side, his performance provided yet another encouraging sign for him to take into consideration.Chiefs, on the other hand, were unable to safeguard their advantage. Cassius Mailula, who came off the substitute and scored the equaliser for Sundowns in the 75th minute, was the player who provided the group with a response. The former Chiefs player made a return to the scoresheet at a crucial juncture, ensuring that the away team would leave Johannesburg with a point. As a result of this outcome, the Chiefs have not suffered a single loss in their first three league matches, finishing with seven points after winning two of them and drawing the other. This is a promising beginning for Da Cruz, especially when one considers the level of competition they were up against.

In the case of Sundowns, the draw ensures that they will continue to be unbeaten in the league. On the other hand, Miguel Cardoso will be aware that his squad needs to improve after they struggled to establish themselves during segments of the match.

However, the Chiefs continue to have a good outlook on the wider picture. The rise of Phili, the resiliency of the team, and Da Cruz's faith in his team have provided Amakhosi supporters with a great deal of reason to be optimistic.

The message that the coach wanted to convey to the players after a rigorous week was quite clear: even tho they may be exhausted, their will to fight has not diminished.
