Bimenyimana Scores as Al-Karamah Beat Qamishli

Former Kaizer Chiefs forward Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana scored his first goal for Al-Karamah SC in Saturday's 2-1 Syrian Premier League win against Qamishli SC.

Following a period of not having a club, the 28-year-old Burundi international joined Al-Karamah on a free transfer. He last played for Jeddah SC in July of 2026, a club in the Saudi First Division League.

At Deir ez-Zor Municipal Stadium, Bimenyimana scored the first goal for his new team in the 23rd minute, making an immediate impression. At halftime, his goal placed Al-Karamah up 1-0 and gave the visitors a good chance to win the match.

Mohammed Issa Hamo scored Qamishli's equaliser in the 65th minute as the team battled back from behind in the second half. With the goal back in their favour, the hosts once again entered the game, setting the stage for a nail-biting conclusion as both sides sought the victor.

Mohammad Al Marmour scored the game-winning goal for Al-Karamah in the 86th minute, giving them the upper hand. Bimenyimana and his colleagues maintained their impressive start to the league campaign thanks to the late goal.

This gave Al-Karamah seven points after three games, putting them atop the Syrian Premier League rankings. With two victories and a tie under their belts, they are certainly one of the early contenders to keep an eye on.

As Bimenyimana tries to carve out a niche for himself in a new football environment in Syria, he will be hoping that his first goal for the club is only the beginning.

The attacker has played for a number of teams in various nations after departing Kaizer Chiefs in 2023 and leaving South Africa. Before his most recent relocation to Syria, he has previously worked in Latvia, Slovakia, Rwanda, Burundi, Algeria, and Saudi Arabia.

While playing for Chiefs, Bimenyimana achieved a notable Premier Soccer League milestone. He still holds the record for most penalties scored in a single Premier Soccer League match, which he accomplished in 2022 when Amakhosi beat Stellenbosch FC 3-1.

He now has a new chance to make an impact overseas thanks to his most recent goal, and he can also assist Al-Karamah keep their lead in the league.
