Pirates Told They Are Being Unfair to Key Striker Despite His Impressive Goalscoring Record

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Sifiso Myeni has urged the Buccaneers to give Sebastian Pedersen more playing time, questioning the Norwegian striker's limited involvement since joining the Soweto giants.

Pedersen, 27, joined Pirates from Norwegian club Sogndal during the off-season on a two-year contract. However, the forward has struggled to secure regular minutes under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, raising questions among supporters about his role in the team's attacking plans.

Before moving to South Africa, Pedersen reportedly scored 51 goals in 117 appearances for Sogndal. His record suggested that he could provide Pirates with another reliable goalscoring option as they compete across domestic and continental competitions.

Speaking on Omni Audio Africa, Myeni argued that Pedersen deserves the same opportunities given to the club's other forwards, including Evidence Makgopa, Boitumelo Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma.

According to the former Buccaneers midfielder, the Norwegian striker needs a fair chance to demonstrate his abilities before being judged on his performances. Myeni believes that giving Pedersen more minutes would allow the coaching staff and supporters to assess whether he can make a meaningful contribution to the team.

Pirates have several attacking options, meaning competition for places remains intense. However, Myeni's comments have added to the debate over whether the club is making sufficient use of its available players.

Ouaddou has previously indicated that Pedersen needs time to improve his fitness and adapt to his new environment. Moving to a different country and adjusting to a new league can be challenging, particularly when a player must familiarise himself with a different tactical system and build chemistry with his teammates.

Nevertheless, regular game time could help Pedersen gain confidence and establish himself within the squad.

For now, it remains to be seen whether Ouaddou will increase the striker's involvement in upcoming matches as Pirates continue their campaign.

Do you agree with Sifiso Myeni? Should Orlando Pirates give Sebastian Pedersen more playing time?
