Stellenbosch FC have secured their place in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-finals after defeating AmaZulu FC 2-1 in their quarter-final encounter.

The Cape Winelands side came through a competitive contest to book their place in the last four, joining Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.

Chumane Butsaka opened the scoring for Stellenbosch, giving his team an important advantage as they looked to secure qualification for the semi-finals.

AmaZulu responded through Mlondi Mbanjwa, who found the net to bring the visitors back into the contest and put pressure on Stellenbosch.

However, Sinoxolo Kwayiba proved decisive for the home side, converting a penalty to restore Stellenbosch's lead and ultimately secure a 2-1 victory.

The result ended AmaZulu's Carling Knockout campaign, while Stellenbosch can now look forward to the semi-final stage.

With the quarter-finals completed, the four teams remaining in the competition are Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC.

All four clubs will now turn their attention to the semi-final draw as they continue their pursuit of the Carling Knockout trophy.

The line-up also guarantees the presence of South African football's established heavyweights alongside Stellenbosch, who will be looking to make another strong cup run.
