Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly ready to tie down midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa on a new deal that could keep him at Naturena until June 2028. For Amakhosi fans who have watched him turn his fortunes around, the news is a welcome one.
According to SoccerBeat, the club has tabled a one-year contract with an option for another year. If the deal is done and that option is triggered, "Ox" could be in Soweto until 2028.
It is a sign of how much he now matters to head coach Fernando Da Cruz. Mthethwa joined Chiefs from Stellenbosch FC in September 2023 on a three-year deal, and expectations were high. His first spell was far from smooth, with injuries and fierce competition for places cutting into his minutes. Under Nasreddine Nabi, he was often fighting just to earn a spot in the squad.
Then the tide turned. He got another chance, rebuilt his confidence, and started showing the qualities that made him stand out at Stellenbosch. His strength in challenges, his knack for breaking up attacks, his tactical discipline and his willingness to protect the back line have become big assets for the team.
His partnership with Lebohang Maboe and Siphesihle Ndlovu has also reportedly brought more balance to the midfield, mixing defensive cover, energy and ball distribution. That kind of stability is exactly what Chiefs need if they want to push for major honours.
Mthethwa also played a part in the 2025 Nedbank Cup win, which ended the club's long wait for silverware. His story is a reminder that a player's career can change completely when the right opportunity comes along and he keeps working to improve.
Neither the club nor the player has officially confirmed the deal yet, but the reports are enough to get supporters excited about his future.
