UNTHINKABLE PSL TAKEOVER: How PSL Newcomers Milford FC Are Quietly Destroying Big Club Dreams

Milford FC Coach Xanti Pupuma Reveals Plan to Avoid Second-Half Relegation Pressure

Milford FC coach Xanti Pupuma is determined to ensure his side does not find themselves under pressure during the second half of the Betway Premiership season after making an encouraging start to their top-flight campaign.

The Stallions have collected 15 points from their opening nine matches, losing only twice against South African football giants Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. Their impressive performances have placed them among the early surprises of the campaign, with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit showing that they can compete against established Premiership sides.

Milford strengthened their position on Saturday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over provincial rivals Golden Arrows at King Zwelithini Stadium. The result lifted them into fourth place on the league table, moving them one point ahead of fifth-placed Kaizer Chiefs.

Siphosethu Ndlabi emerged as the match-winner after finding the back of the net late in the second half, securing Milford's first away victory of the season and adding another important three points to their growing tally.

However, Pupuma understands that a strong start will count for little if his players fail to maintain their standards as the season progresses.

Speaking after the victory, the Milford mentor explained that the club's initial objective was to collect enough points early in the campaign to place themselves in a comfortable position before the second round begins.

"The aim and the plan were to have a good start, and fortunately for us, things have gone the way we would have hoped," Pupuma said.

He added that the team would continue working towards its targets, with December serving as an important checkpoint in their campaign.

Pupuma hopes Milford can accumulate enough points before the end of the year to avoid entering the second half of the season desperately searching for results. He acknowledged that the competition becomes increasingly difficult as teams fight for survival and positions on the standings.

The coach also praised his players for their fearless approach, insisting that their performances reflect the quality and potential within the squad rather than an unexpected run of good fortune.

Having experienced a relegation battle during Milford's first season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Pupuma believes those difficult moments have provided valuable lessons about managing pressure and preparing for the challenges ahead.

The coach is particularly conscious of the commonly accepted 30-point benchmark associated with Premiership survival. With 15 points already secured, Milford have reached the halfway mark of that target.

For Pupuma, reaching a comfortable position by December would ease the pressure on the technical team and allow the club to approach the remainder of the campaign with greater confidence.

Milford's early progress has given their supporters plenty of reasons for optimism. However, maintaining consistency will be crucial if the Stallions are to turn their impressive start into a successful first full Premiership campaign.
