Kaizer Chiefs utility player Reeve Frosler has urged his teammates to put their continental disappointment behind them and concentrate on winning the Carling Knockout Cup as they look to salvage their season.
Amakhosi suffered an early exit from the CAF Confederation Cup after losing to Zambian side Red Arrows in the preliminary rounds. The setback was a major disappointment for the Soweto giants, who had hoped to make progress in continental football after returning to the competition.
However, Frosler believes the team must quickly turn its attention to the domestic competitions still available to them. With the Carling Knockout offering another opportunity to compete for silverware, the defender wants Chiefs to approach the tournament with determination and a clear objective.
"We’ll look to put our best foot forward on Tuesday and try and go all the way in the Carling Cup. We have ambitions of wanting to win a trophy and this gives us an opportunity to try and do that."
The Chiefs player acknowledged the importance of responding positively after their continental setback, explaining that the squad must learn from the experience without allowing it to affect their preparations for upcoming fixtures.
Chiefs have faced scrutiny over their performances, and winning a domestic trophy would provide a significant boost for the players, coaching staff and supporters. The Carling Knockout represents one of the remaining opportunities for the club to turn its campaign around.
Frosler’s comments also reflect the expectations at Naturena, where supporters are eager to see the team challenge for honours consistently. The utility player believes the squad has to demonstrate its ambitions on the pitch by producing strong performances and taking its opportunities in the competition.
With the knockout format leaving little room for mistakes, Chiefs will need to remain focused and deliver when it matters. Frosler and his teammates will be hoping to begin their campaign positively and build momentum towards a potential place in the final.
