Celtic fans urged to join 17th-minute applause at Dundee United game

Aidan McCabe, from Cumbernauld, passed away last week at the age of 17.

The teenager previously played in Airdrie FC youth set-up, spending time with its 2009 squad before moving on to Cumbernauld Colts and Rossvale FC.

Following his death, Aidan’s dad, Graeme, has asked Celtic fans to pay tribute to his son during the club’s match against Dundee United on Wednesday, October 28.

Supporters are being encouraged to take part in a minute’s applause in the 17th minute of the game, marking Aidan’s age.

The tribute follows a show of respect from Airdrie Community Club, which held a minute’s applause for its former player before each of its age-group matches on Saturday.

Young players, coaches and referees gathered around the centre circle to remember Aidan before their games.

The proposed tribute at Celtic’s game would give supporters another opportunity to remember the young footballer and show their support for his family.
