Fulham v Newcastle United: Team News

Newcastle United travel to Craven Cottage to face a Fulham side growing in confidence after better results of late.

The Cottagers drew 1-1 with Aston Villa in their last game, while an insipid Newcastle lost 1-0 to Everton.

Newcastle will be missing Joelinton through injury and Jacob Ramsey through suspension, while Fulham have a light injury list.

Here is the rest of the team news.

Newcastle United

Joelinton is back on the treatment table after suffering “muscle discomfort” following the loss to Everton. This leaves Newcastle a bit short in midfield, as they only have four fully fit midfielders: Sean Steur, Aladji Bamba, Joe Willock, and Nico González.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Matthias Jaissle said: “Joelinton went out with an injury again, we need to make the final treatment plan for him and see how long he will be out.”

Steur could replace him in midfield and play alongside Nico. Jaissle wasn’t giving anything away, however.

“He [Steur] showed in the last match that he can contribute a lot of good things into our game even though the match against Everton was a bit different, but he has so much potential.

“We need to find a way that he is able to play more minutes as his progress is going in the right direction.”

If he decides not to play Steur, he could deploy Willock in a deeper midfield role and play Yoane Wissa behind Will Osula.

Ewen Jaouen and Tino Livramento are still out with hamstring and knee injuries respectively, although Livramento isn’t far off a return.

There was better news about Lewis Miley and Matias Fernandez-Pardo.

Fernandez-Pardo has been out with an illness since Newcastle’s game against Aston Villa last month, while Miley suffered a glute injury that has kept him out of the last couple of games. There is hope that one or both could be included in the matchday squad.

On Fernandez-Pardo, Jaissle said: “Matias Fernandez-Pardo has had a heavy virus, he has been out for more than two weeks.

“He is progressing and training with us again, we will have to see how he is physically before Fulham.”

On Miley, he said: “Lewis is getting better and better, showed a good reaction, he is making progress how I expected and wished for.”

Jacob Ramsey will serve a one-match ban after being sent off in the dying minutes against Everton.

In more bizarre news, Amar Dedić is unlikely to face any disciplinary action from the club after he was stopped by the police in Northumberland for carrying a bow and arrows. The weapons were seized and the police later confirmed in a statement that they were for “recreational use” only.

Fulham

Alvaro Arbeloa has a much lighter injury list to deal with.

Tom Cairney is out with a knee injury, but Arbeloa said that he expects the midfielder to be available after the international break. Unlike Jaissle, he has plenty of other options to choose from, including Shea Charles and Josh King.

Ryan Sessegnon is available after serving a three-match ban and could come in for Antonee Robinson at left-back.
