Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United are set to lock horns at Elland Road in the Premier League on Saturday.
Spurs come into this game off the back of three wins on the bounce, including a comfortable 2-0 success over 10-man Crystal Palace last time out at home. This fine run of form now has them up in ninth and just three points off fifth.
Leeds United, on the other hand, are struggling for form, having failed to win any of their last five Premier League matches. They were beaten 2-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium last time out. Yet just one point separates the Whites and Spurs, making this encounter in Yorkshire an exciting one.
Tottenham have a strong head-to-head record against Leeds United, with the North Londoners unbeaten in their last six outings. However, the Whites will be aiming to claim a first win over Spurs since 2021, while De Zerbi and Co. will be eyeing four wins on a trot.
TalkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara thinks his former club will drop points against Leeds. BBC Sport pundit Chris Sutton is also of the same opinion, despite admitting Spurs are flying at the moment. The former Celtic star has predicted the game at Elland Road to end 1-1.
“Tottenham always seem to do well against Leeds – they have only lost one of their past 15 meetings in the Premier League, going back almost 25 years,” Chris Sutton wrote in his BBC Sport column.
“I am a little bit of a believer that some teams always do well, or badly, against certain opposition or on certain grounds. So, I am definitely not going for Leeds to win this – but do I back Tottenham to win again and continue their good run?
“Roberto de Zerbi’s side have rocketed up the table on the back of three wins in a row, although they were helped out a lot by Jean-Philippe Mateta’s red card in their victory over Crystal Palace last time out.
“Tottenham are flying at the moment, and their confidence is up – we are seeing a bit of a Spurs swagger for the first time in a long while. So, while I don’t think they will make it four wins in a row, I don’t see them being beaten, either.
“It’s likely to be a very tight game. Leeds were a bit unlucky to lose to Bournemouth last week, but their lack of goals is becoming an issue.”
Both teams have experienced contrasting fortunes in recent weeks. While Daniel Farke’s side are struggling with form and fitness of some key players, the Lilywhites are a team that is on the opposite side of the spectrum.
The mood around Tottenham is the best since the final day of last season when we avoided an embarrassing relegation, and De Zerbi will want his boys to ride on the winning momentum. With the Tottenham players brimming with confidence and working hard, we are favourites on paper for this encounter.
